I was gonna start this list with having a hollow leg, but I don't know if being able to out-drink 95% of the people I'm with (and still know when to go home 95% of the time) is really a good quality. So let's have a rethink. It's so much easier to beat myself up, but here are five aspects of Bob that some see as worthwhile, as well as what I hope will serve as requisite proof ...
5. Paying attention to detail (when I have to). I've been known to be a good proofreader and editor (especially of other people's work). I can also sort out the glitches in a slew of HTML code if I have to. You can ask Big Blogger about this if you need some proof.
4. Pimping Staying connected with friends. A few
well-placed emails got me a bunch of votes here last week and helped
raise over £6,000 for a couple of marathons I've run.
3. Building bridges. Back in the corporate days I was awfully good at creating consensus. My biggest successes in marketing communications and branding came from getting people who'd normally never talk to each other to sit down with each other and find common ground to build upon. I liked being the bridge between corporate and creative É reigning in the design agencies while persuading the suits to take off their "but we've always done it this way" blinders and try something fresh. Proof? A fully comprehensive brand book for an international asset management company. It's a huge PDF that I don't have on this computer and can't be posted for proprietary reasons, but if you want I can email it to you when I'm back in London.
2. Preparing and improvising. Whether it be teaching an English class, running a Life Clubs workshop, or hosting a dinner party, it's something I really enjoy and seem to do well at. The thing is, no matter how much you plan, things usually go awry and you have to think on your feet. I guess the proof is in the pudding on this one (and I do make a fantastic pumpkin pie), so come over for dinner and see. I suppose my "Pass A" grade from International House helps confirm this as well.
1. Seeing the good. For the most part, I can find something good in any situation or person. This helps a lot when you're holding up sloppy drunks who can't hold their tequila, being accused of having no friends when you simply follow a task's instructions, working with Machiavellian marketing directors, or watching a lesson plan swirl right down the toilet. Proof = see above.
Bob (not Big Blogger, in case you were confused)
Phew, I feel positively inspired! And also a little inadequate!
